Depending on your trading style - daytrader or investor, whether you are a programmer etc. There are many trading platforms out there, each are focused at a specific type of trading - so which platform a trader would use depends of the above - some even use 2-3 platforms simultaneously since no platform is perfect.

I prefer MT 4 which was specifically designed for trading. This is a reliable trading platform that provides traders with lots of useful features, such as: 1-click trading, Lots of available Expert Advisors, Over 50 indicators, Pending orders, Limit orders, Multi charting, Nine time frames.

I generally like MT4 as you can totally count on this platform. In addition to this, it is also supplied with a powerful set of mobile apps. These applications are available for nearly any type of operating system, including iOS, Android, Windows and BlackBerry. Needless to say, these mobile platforms are also very stable and powerful.
